Community Gardens
Community gardening is an initiative of the Build a Healthy Community Childhood Obesity Prevention Project aimed to promote active lifestyles and healthy eating in communities.
A Community Garden is defined as a single piece of land gardened collectively by a group of people. Community gardens present a opportunity to build community through inter-generational learning, sustainability and access to fresh fruits and vegetables.
Three garden projects have started in northwest Jacksonville and interest for several more is steadily growing. Planning will begin for a community garden in Opa-Locka later this year.
